Did anyone know that the Japanese have learned to turn cells from adults back into stem cells?

Are you pondering about whether or not you should contact the local cord blood bank?

The concept of cord blood banking has witnessed an improved acceptance in the past decade. At the moment people are thinking about whether they can bank their infant’s cord blood. In the past, the umbilical cord used to be thrown away after the child was actually born, however with developing awareness of how helpful the blood of the umbilical cord is, the medical professionals have now begun to store the blood of the umbilical cord in cord blood banks.

After a ton of medical research has been carried out on what can be done with the umbilical cord researchers have found that it is actually good to store the umbilical cord in a cord blood bank. The blood of the umbilical cord is extremely useful in working with several diseases associated with the immune system and also other blood related disorders which people suffer from. Until relatively recently the umbilical blood was never stored in a cord blood bank; But after the mid 1990s the medical world have began to appreciate the importance of umbilical blood and are now spreading knowledge about the need for storing umbilical blood in a cord blood bank.

The growing importance of the Cord blood bank

The basic reason why people are now looking into using a cord blood bank is due to the fact that the umbilical blood is considered to be so precious. This is since it consists of high amount of hematopoietic stem cells and can be stored in the cord blood banks safely for years. The importance of having a high quantity of hematopoietic stem cells is that this exact type of blood is capable of generating new white blood cells and red blood cells. The concept behind the use of cord blood is similar to that of bone marrow transplants which have been in practice for many years. However unlike the bone marrow which needed to be a perfect match with the recipient, the utilization of the umbilical blood does not require such a perfect match.

There are many increased options for treating an ailment with the use of umbilical blood than there have ever been with the bone marrow transplants since the chances of someones body rejecting the umbilical blood are much less in comparison to his odds of rejecting the bone marrow.

The continuous stem cell research shows that there are almost 70 diseases that can be cured with the use of the umbilical cord blood. It is for this reason that ever more people are finally starting to squirrel away their baby’s umbilical cord blood in a local cord blood bank. The cord blood is not only usable by the child whose umbilical cord blood is stored, but this blood can also be utilized by various family members of the children as well. The use of umbilical blood is of high importance due to the fact that research has proved that the use of the umbilical blood can assist in treating cancers, damaged internal organs and even some blood disorders, which is one of the chief reasons why quite a lot of people are choosing to make use of a cord blood bank service.

Anyone who wishes to have their baby’s umbilical blood stored should pick a cord blood bank well before the arrival of your child due to the fact that not all hospitals are equipped collect and transfer the umbilical blood to the cord blood bank. Consequently you would need to choose the cord blood bank and inform your doctor more or less 2 months in advance so that you can simplify the process of documentation and preparation for the collection and storage of your baby’s umbilical cord blood to the cord blood bank.

So why are we focusing on embryonic stem cells that destroy embryos if we could use the other method. Embryonic stem cells are almost obselete, trust me i read it in an official scientific journal in AP Biology. I want some feedback from some people on this topic please.
Actually it was discovered in 2007

Bollucks to the Japanese… University of Wisconsin (the school that first isolated embryonic stem cells) has been doing this for a while as well.

Mostly, because the embryonic stem cells behave more predictably and have more research backing their stability than the few studies published about reprogramming cells. (this was a guess). Research studies get grant money from pitching a research proposal. Once they get their grant ( which can be several years of funding) the project must go on as it was planned… in many cases the reprogrammed stem cells weren’t even around when the groups wrote their grant proposals.

There is no doubt that much of the future research will be done with reprogrammed cells and not the even more controversial ES cells. Incidentally, the reprogrammed cells are still controversial b/c one could conceivably get an entire organism to develop from one of them… when does an embryo develop a soul?

I have no doubt that much of the future studies will be done using the

Yes. This protocol has been around for… about five years or so? It’s not used quite frequently, some amazing things have been done with it, and it just goes to show how completely and utterly disconnected the media is from anything actually going on in biomedical research. Embryonic stem cells get attention – so it doesn’t really matter if they’ve been bypassed for all but a handful of things, so lets keep running stories on it!

While it’s not a mature technique, it’s amazingly useful.

And then again, I’ve never seen a single well written or even vaguely accurate article about any biomed scientific subject in a mass media publication -ever-.
