if a woman has been clean from using meth since 7 months will she be ok if they check babys blood at hospital?

Are you thinking about whether or not you should contact a local cord blood bank?

The strategy of cord blood banking has noticed an elevated acceptance in the past decade. Nowadays people are thinking about whether they can bank their infant’s cord blood. In the past, the umbilical cord used to be dumped after the child was actually delivered, however with emergent awareness of how useful the blood of the umbilical cord is, the medical professionals have now started to store the blood of the umbilical cord in cord blood banks.

After a good deal of medical research has been performed on what can be done with the umbilical cord researchers have uncovered that it is actually helpful to store the umbilical cord in a cord blood bank. The blood from the umbilical cord is very useful in the treatment of various diseases associated with the immune system as well as other blood related disorders which people suffer from. Till relatively recently the umbilical blood was never stored in a cord blood bank; however after the mid 1990s medical professionals have started to understand the importance of umbilical blood and are finally distributing awareness about the need for storing umbilical blood in a cord blood bank.

The emergent importance of the Cord blood bank

The most basic reason why people are now researching using a cord blood bank is because the umbilical blood is considered to be so precious. This is because it includes high amount of hematopoietic stem cells and can be stored in the cord blood banks safely for years. The importance of having a large amount of hematopoietic stem cells is that this exact type of blood has the capability to generating new white blood cells and red blood cells. The concept behind the use of cord blood is similar to that of bone marrow transplants which have been in use for many years. However unlike the bone marrow which needed to be a perfect match with the recipient, the utilization of the umbilical blood does not call for such a perfect match.

There are many increased options for treating an ailment with the use of umbilical blood than there are with the bone marrow transplants since the odds of someones body rejecting the umbilical blood are much less in comparison to his odds of rejecting the bone marrow.

The ongoing stem cell research shows that there are almost 70 diseases that can be cured with the use of the umbilical cord blood. It is for this reason that more people are starting to stock up their baby’s umbilical cord blood in a local cord blood bank. The cord blood is not only useful to the child whose umbilical cord blood is stored, but this blood can also be employed by various family members of the children as well. The use of umbilical blood is vital because research proves that the use of the umbilical blood could assist in curing cancer, damaged internal organs and even blood disorders, which is one of the primary reasons why quite a lot of people are opting to utilize a cord blood bank service.

Anyone who wishes to have their baby’s umbilical blood stored really should try to select a cord blood bank well before the delivery of your newborn due to the fact that not all hospitals are equipped collect and relocate the umbilical blood to the cord blood bank. Therefore you would need to select the cord blood bank and let your dr know roughly 2 months in advance so that you can simplify the procedure of paperwork and preparation for the collection and storage of your baby’s umbilical cord blood to the cord blood bank.

If the baby shows no signs of drug problems, they will not check for drugs.

But, I would recommend your sister talk to her OB/GYN about her past drug use. It is a great thing she was able to quit, even though it was on the late side. But, her doctor should know what has happened, so they can be proactive at birth if something isn’t right.

First off, weight is NOT the only effect of meth use during pregnancy. I’d suggest you read this:

Second, meth has a half-life of 10-20 hours, so I doubt they could test for it, but the baby’s behavior alone may be enough to tell them that she used. I doubt they’d take the baby away though. She should tell the doctor, so they can look out for any potential problems it may cause.

she shouldn’t be worried about them finding out. ever heard of doctor-patient confidentiality? doctor is required by law not to give away patient secrets.

she should definitely tell the doctor as soon as possible! they need to know about that so that they can take care of the baby! otherwise the baby could die and then it would be her fault for not informing the doctors!

the doctors won’t judge her especially if she has been clean and doesn’t want to continue–they will help her and give her the info she needs, and provide any special care needed to the baby. it could save the baby’s life if she tells the doctor. don’t worry about getting in trouble doctors deal with drug use all the time!

I **** to bring this up but are you and your sister both using meth and about to deliver (see other questions from today)?

The best thing to do is to be honest with your doctor whether you quit 9 months ago (as previously stated) or 5 months ago.

Again, as I mentioned before your doctor probably already knows but the responsible thing would be to come clean with your doctor so that they can best treat your baby.

I didn’t mention this earlier but I will now: you have been given a second chance on life… please take it and be the best mommy you can!

Again I sincerely wish and hope for the best for you and your baby.

Your sister needs to be honest with her OB about her drug use. The OB only wants to make sure that the baby is healthy as can be. The OB will not judge your sister and only wants to help her and the baby. When the baby is born, the OB can test the baby to make sure he or she is healthy and ok or if the baby need some help to become healthy. If your sister won’t tell her OB, then you should for your nephew or niece’s sake.

I think everyone should be aware that 90% of all OB’s test DURING PREGNANCY! I’m pretty sure the doctor might already know, if he tells CPS or not is a different story. They don’t just check your urine for protein ladies, I can’t believe anyone would continue to abuse rather than seek help for 7 months of pregnancy…pretty selfish to harm an unborn child without a choice. I don’t think they will find anything after birth, but meth does have serious effects on babies’ health other than weight.

I pray for that child, Maybe being taken away wouldn’t be the worst thing that could happen, if the mother didn’t care enough to quit using while pregnant, what’s going to keep her from using once the baby’s born??

When the baby is first born, they check the first bowel movement, and it will show everything the mother has had in her system since day 1 pretty much. My sister just had a child, and they found every drug in the babys bowel movement that had ever entered my sisters body in the 7 mths she was preg.
