Are you thinking about whether or not you should contact the local cord blood bank?
The concept of cord blood banking has seen an elevated acceptance in the past ten years. Right now people are thinking about whether they can bank their infant’s cord blood. In past times, the umbilical cord used to be abandoned after the child was actually born, however with expanding awareness of how useful the blood of the umbilical cord is, the doctors have finally begun to store the blood of the umbilical cord in cord blood banks.
After a good deal of medical research has been conducted on what can be done with the umbilical cord researchers have found that it is in fact good to store the umbilical cord in a cord blood bank. The blood from the umbilical cord is exceedingly useful in the treatment of numerous diseases associated with the immune system and also other blood related disorders which people suffer from. Till relatively recently the umbilical blood was never stored in a cord blood bank; But after the mid 1990s the medical world have started to appreciate the importance of umbilical blood and are now circulating knowledge of the importance of storing umbilical blood in a cord blood bank.
The growing importance of the Cord blood bank
The most basic reason why people are now researching using a cord blood bank is because the umbilical blood is considered to be so precious. This is due to the fact that it contains high amount of hematopoietic stem cells and can be stored in the cord blood banks safely for years. The importance of having a high quantity of hematopoietic stem cells is that this particular type of blood has the capability to generating new white blood cells and red blood cells. The concept behind the use of cord blood is similar to that of bone marrow transplants which have been in use for many years. However unlike the bone marrow which needs to be a perfect match with the recipient, the utilization of the umbilical blood does not call for such a perfect match.
There are much increased chances of treating an ailment with the use of umbilical blood than there are with the bone marrow transplants since the likelihood of someones body rejecting the umbilical blood are much less in comparison to his probability of rejecting the bone marrow.
The continued stem cell research shows that there are almost 70 diseases that can be cured with the use of the umbilical cord blood. It is for this reason that more people are now starting to squirrel away their baby’s umbilical cord blood in a local cord blood bank. The cord blood is not only helpful for the child whose umbilical cord blood is saved, but this blood can also be used by various family members of the children as well. The storing of umbilical blood is of high importance because research proves that the use of the umbilical blood could facilitate in treating cancers, damaged internal organs as well as blood disorders, which is one of the chief reasons why a lot of people are starting to use a cord blood bank service.

The doctor has suggested that we take a Vit. K injection for him. Is this bleeding normal? Should we take the injection? I want to avoid all medication for such a little baby.
The bleeding is very little, by the time we see it, its just dried blood on the navel. The stump fell off on the 7th day after birth.

Totally, completely, absolutely normal.
Did they give her the Vitamin K shot in the hospital? If they did, i wouldn’t give her another one.
After my daughters cord fell off there was a little blood at the base of the navel, it is completely normal. Just keep it clean with a washcloth.
Yes, completely normal. I wouldn’t take the shot unless he continues to bleed, more than slightly, and then I would still talk with the dr before taking the shot.
yeah i think it’s normal. just make sure when you change him, the diaper is below the stump, so it doesnt irritate him even more. clothe him loosely and try to keep the area as dry as possible. that should do it.
