What is the significants of embryonic stem cell research over adult stem cells research?
Are you wondering about whether or not you should speak to a local cord blood bank?
The general idea of cord blood banking has witnessed much elevated acceptance in the past several years. At the moment people are giving it serious thought to bank their infant’s cord blood. Years ago, the umbilical cord used to be thrown away after the child was actually delivered, however with expanding recognition of how useful the blood of the umbilical cord is, the medical professionals have finally begun to store the blood of the umbilical cord in cord blood banks.
After a good deal of medical research has been conducted on what could be done with the umbilical cord researchers have uncovered that it is in fact good to store the umbilical cord in a cord blood bank. The blood of the umbilical cord is really valuable in healing numerous diseases related to the immune system as well as other blood related disorders which people suffer from. Until the mid 1990s the umbilical blood was never stored in a cord blood bank; But after the mid 1990s the medical world have started to understand the magnitude of umbilical blood and are now spreading knowledge about the importance of storing umbilical blood in a cord blood bank.
The rising importance of the Cord blood bank
The most basic reason why people are now looking into using a cord blood bank is due to the fact that the umbilical blood is considered to be so precious. This is since it contains high amount of hematopoietic stem cells and can be stored in the cord blood banks safely for years. The importance of having a high quantity of hematopoietic stem cells is that this particular type of blood has the capability to generating new white blood cells and red blood cells. The model behind the use of cord blood is similar to that of bone marrow transplants which have been in practice for years. However unlike the bone marrow which needs to be a perfect match with the recipient, the utilization of the umbilical blood does not call for such a perfect match.
There are many higher chances of treating an ailment with the use of umbilical blood than there are with the bone marrow transplants since the odds of someones body rejecting the umbilical blood are much less in comparison to his odds of rejecting the bone marrow.
The prolonged stem cell research shows that there are roughly 70 diseases that can be cured with the use of the umbilical cord blood. It is for this reason that more and more people are beginning to gather their baby’s umbilical cord blood in a local cord blood bank. The cord blood is not only useful to the child whose umbilical cord blood is saved, but this blood can also be useful to the family members of the children as well. The use of umbilical blood is vital due to the fact that research proves that the use of the umbilical blood could assist in curing some cancers, damaged internal organs as well as some blood disorders, which is one of the major reasons why quite a lot of people are opting to avail yourself of a cord blood bank service.
If you need to get your baby’s umbilical blood stored will want to select a cord blood bank well before the birth of your infant because not all hospitals are equipped collect and transfer the umbilical blood to the cord blood bank. As a result you would need to select the cord blood bank and let your dr know just about 2 months in advance so that you can rationalize the course of paperwork and preparation for the collection and storage of your baby’s umbilical cord blood to the cord blood bank.
I have been told that there is more potential in saving lives with adult (or other non-embryonic) stem cell research over embryonic stem cell research. I know about the whole genetic arguement (because getting ACS has the genetic code of the patient, the patient will accept it idea) so I know the advantages of ADC over ESC. What are the advantages of ESC over ASC?

Theoretically, embryonic stem cells have a greater potential to be manipulated into long-lasting cells of any type. A useful line of embryonic stem cells could be genetically altered so that they were not immunogentic in a host (would not be rejected even though they are foreign cells). Such a line could be used in every patient.
This would be preferable to getting adult stem cells from each patient and manipulating them for cell therapy. That’s an enourmous amount of work to do to treat one patient.
Theoretcially, adult stem cells might be able to manipulated so that a single line of cells could be used in many patients. Some progress has been made but it is slow going.
It would be good to compare adult stem cells to embryonic ones to see which were better to use. But research on embryonic stem cells has been crippled by legislation forbiding government funding. We are nearly a decade behind where we could have been on this research.
As far as I know the embryonic stem cells, being younger have a better chance of developing into what ever the researcher is making out of them. They are less developed and have a better ability to change. Adult Stem cells can change into what ever needed for the reseach, but you have less stem cells to work with because the adult body is developed. You have less stem cells to harvest and they are more mature.
Embryonic stem cell research has more potential than adult stem cell research because embryonic stem cells can become any cell in the body, whereas adult stem cells can only become certain cells.
